Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero's elbow on Reid 'brutal' - FA

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero was banned for three matches after a "brutal" elbow on Winston Reid "clearly endangered the safety" of the West Ham defender, according to the report by the FA's independent commission.

The incident happened as the two players challenged for a high ball during City's 3-1 win over West Ham at the Etihad Stadium last month.

It was not seen by referee Andre Marriner or other match officials but was caught on video, and the retrospective three-match ban given to Aguero saw him miss last weekend's Manchester derby.

The Football Association published the findings of the commission, chaired by Stuart Ripley, as it outlined its reasons for the ban.

The commission found Aguero had "thrown out his left arm in an aggressive manner that was excessive in force and brutal, which clearly endangered the safety of Mr Reid."

The members of the three-man body were unanimous in their decision that video evidence of the incident was conclusive.

City failed in an appeal to get the decision overturned, meaning Aguero will also miss the home clash with Bournemouth on Sept. 17 and EFL Cup tie at Swansea City four days later.

Aguero caught Reid in the neck with his elbow and the New Zealand international was treated on the pitch before being substituted.
