Pep Guardiola to transform Man City as a club - commercial director

Pep Guardiola will take Manchester City to "another level," according to the club's commercial director.

City pulled off a major coup by attracting arguably the most sought-after coach in football to the Etihad Stadium.

And the City Football Group's commercial chief Omar Berrada says that Guardiola will have an impact on the club off the pitch as well as on it.

The Catalan enjoyed remarkable success at previous clubs Barcelona and Bayern Munich, as well as winning admirers for his style of football at both sides.

And that combination will contribute to an increased interest in City, Berrada believes.

"Pep is a proven winner. He has a track record of delivering success and also has a track record of delivering teams that play beautiful football," Berrada told ESPN FC.

"What he's going to do is help elevate the quality of the team and make us more competitive. But more generally as a club we're all going to rise up another level.

"It's good that Pep is one of the finest managers around right now and in the game. He is known everywhere giving the success that he's had both as a player and a manager.

"And I think he will help us definitely raise our visibility and awareness around the world. But the impact he's going to have mostly is on the pitch. As we all know this is what fans mostly want to see."

The spotlight on Manchester is set to increase even more with Guardiola due to renew his bitter rivalry with new Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.

"Manchester has always been a football hub," Berrada said. "Now having the two clubs, having Pep Guardiola here at Manchester City, means it is going to add an additional focus on Manchester."

Guardiola and Mourinho will first go head-to-head in a preseason friendly in Beijing on July 25 as China starts to make a huge investment in football.

The City Football Group sold a 13 percent stake to a consortium of Chinese investors, while the Chinese Super League has attracted notable talent from Europe for big money.

Chinese President Xi Jinping visited City's Etihad Campus last year and the Premier League club are keen to increase their links to the country.

"China is definitely a market we are looking into in terms of how to be able to participate in this fantastic story that they're building -- using football to help grow, share and develop certain values around physical activity and teamwork," Berrada said.

"We had President Xi visit our facilities in October and we were fascinated to hear about his plans and the plans that they have, so we'd like to be able to be part of the story and to participate and give back the know-how that we have developed here.

"Going there is one of the things we'll be doing over the next few years in terms of our development in China."
