Pep Guardiola to face Bayern Munich in his first game as Man City manager

Pep Guardiola is to take Manchester City back to his old club Bayern Munich for a preseason friendly in July.

The Spanish coach will take his new side to the Allianz Arena for a game on July 20 in what is scheduled to be the first match of his three-year reign at the Etihad.

Guardiola, who officially takes over his job on July 1, has planned a competitive preseason for his new club with games against Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal already confirmed.

The 45-year-old revealed he would leave German champions Bayern in December before being confirmed as the new City boss on Feb 2.

He won three Bundesliga titles and two domestic cups during his three years in Munich, although some claimed he failed during his time at the club due to his inability to win the Champions League.

"Playing Bayern Munich is always a great occasion and this match has the added excitement of our new head coach Pep Guardiola returning to play with Manchester City against his former club," City chief executive Ferran Soriano said.

"Bayern will provide fitting opposition as our team continues its pre-season preparations and we will be able to connect with our fans in Germany."

City have met Bayern six times in the past five years in the Champions League, with the two sides winning three matches each. In their last meeting in November 2014 City fought back from 2-0 at the Etihad to win 3-2 thanks to a Sergio Aguero hat trick.

City will play United -- managed by Guardiola's old rival Jose Mourinho -- in Beijing on July 25 followed by Dortmund three days later in Shenzhen.

They will also face Arsenal in Gothenburg on August 7 just ahead of the start of the Premier League season.

No City friendlies are currently scheduled ahead of the Bayern friendly, although there is a window to arrange more games before the squad fly out to Germany.
