David Silva set to miss second leg at Real Madrid with hamstring injury

Manchester City playmaker David Silva is unlikely to be fit in time for next week's Champions League semifinal second leg at Real Madrid, Manuel Pellegrini said.

Silva left Tuesday's 0-0 draw in the first leg shortly before half-time and his manager does not expect him to recover by next Wednesday.

"David had a slight strain in his hamstring," Pellegrini said. "It is difficult to say now. It is probably tough for him to recover in just one week. We'll have a clearer idea tomorrow."

Kelechi Iheanacho came on to replace Silva, but Pellegrini said the loss of the Spain international changed City's strategy in their home leg.

"We played a very intense game and defended well," Pellegrini said. "We tried to create until David Silva got injured then we lost the ball too much. If you cannot win then a 0-0 draw is good."

Pellegrini said City would retain the same tactics at the Bernabeu when they go in search of an away goal that could seal a trip to the final.

"This season we have played very well away," he said. "Now we go to the Bernabeu with the same attitude as playing at home.

"Real Madrid must attack a little bit more. You cannot take too much from the first leg, we can see from the second leg who will go through."

Madrid left-back Marcelo said Silva would be an important loss for City, but the Premier League side had plenty of quality to cover.

"Silva is a great player, of course we needed to be careful with him," he said. "But their full team is good. He is an important loss for them, but they will not feel it too much."
