Manchester City can catch Premier League title rivals - Bacary Sagna

MANCHESTER -- Bacary Sagna insists he is confident that Manchester City can put together a run of wins to pile the pressure on Premier League leaders Leicester City.

City ended a run of three successive league defeats with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday.

That meant they closed the gap on rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, who drew with each other after losing in midweek, to two and five points respectively, but they still trail Leicester by 10 points.

But Sagna believes that if City can put together a consistent run of results, they can put all the sides at the top under pressure.

"It's important to win all our games now to stay in the competition to win the league. We are confident -- of course it's going to be difficult," he told reporters.

"It was very important because we were coming off three defeats -- especially two at home -- so we had to step up and show we're still fighting for the title.

"It's a strange season because everyone is dropping points and until the end of the season will continue to drop points. We have to focus on our team and we have to stay consistent. I think consistency will be the key if we want to catch Leicester."

Manager Manuel Pellegrini now has much of his squad back fit and Sagna says the squad have the quality and experience to catch their rivals.

In 2014, City won their final five games to clinch the title and two years earlier they won their last six to become champions. And the French defender believes they can do it again.

"This team has done it before so why not," he said. "We have all the players and all the quality required. We have to play well as a team, defend as a team and attack as a team.

"Yesterday we didn't concede any goals and managed to score four so it is positive. Now let's do it until the end of the season."
