Manuel Pellegrini: Pep Guardiola arrival not problem for Manchester City

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has said confirmation that Pep Guardiola will be taking over in the summer has not affected the club's season.

City have struggled for form since it was announced that the Bayern Munich boss would succeed Pellegrini.

Home defeats to Leicester and Tottenham have dented their chances of winning the Premier League title, while an under-strength team crashed 5-1 at Chelsea in the FA Cup.

But at his news conference before Wednesday's Champions League trip to Dynamo Kiev, Pellegrini said news of Guardiola's arrival was "not the problem."

"All the players and staff are thinking about just this season," he said. "We have important challenges this year and are focused on every game.

"There is the Champions League, and after that we have the [Capital One Cup] final at Wembley [against Liverpool] on Sunday, and on Wednesday we return in the Premier League at Liverpool -- it's very easy because we are focusing on winning silverware this season."

Pellegrini said that despite the injury problems that have ruled out players including Kevin De Bruyne, Jesus Navas, Wilfried Bony, Fabian Delph and Samir Nasri, City had a real chance of progressing in the Champions League.

"Last time we were eliminated by Barcelona at this stage, but now we are facing Dynamo, and hopefully this time the result will be positive," he said.

"We have a great chance to get through. But only the best teams can make it to the Champions League knockout round, and this is true for Dynamo too."
