Willy Caballero eager to impress at Man City in Joe Hart's absence

Willy Caballero is determined to seize an opportunity to shine in the absence of first-choice Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart.

Caballero, City's backup keeper, is set for a short run of games with England international Hart likely to be out for around 10 days due to a hamstring injury.

Caballero will take over against Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday and the Argentine is also likely to play against Hull and Stoke in the next week. He could even still be in place for the final Champions League Group D game against Borussia Monchengladbach on Dec. 8.

The former Malaga goalkeeper, who joined City in 2013, has been credited with providing the extra competition Hart needed to raise his game to its current high level, but has himself been limited to only occasional appearances.

Caballero, 34, said: "The most important thing is to try and show myself, all my teammates and our fans that I can come in. I did really well in another team and I believe in myself that I can do the same thing here. This is my opportunity so I have to take it.

"I know Joe is in an amazing moment and is playing really well. He is one of the top three of four keepers in the world at the moment and I wish him all the best to keep improving to become No. 1.

"When I arrived here I knew I came for this position and I tried to help Joe to improve and he has helped me too. We train really well and I wish him a quick recovery. I would like to enjoy this opportunity on the pitch."
