Wilfried Bony must justify Man City place - Manuel Pellegrini

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has told Wilfried Bony to start repaying the trust placed in him.

Bony, 26, was a £25 million signing from Swansea in January, but has only scored five goals in 24 games for the Premier League leaders.

And although the Ivory Coast international has managed three goals in his last five outings, he has also spurned several other chances, which Pellegrini believes is unlike him.

Bony will be the only specialist striker in City's squad for Tuesday's Champions League tie with Sevilla because Sergio Aguero is injured and Kelechi Iheanacho is ineligible.

And while Pellegrini is adamant he believes in the former Swansea man, he believes it is time Bony illustrated why City signed him.

"Maybe he needs to score, because he is missing some chances," Pellegrini told reporters. "The way he plays and the striker he is, he normally doesn't miss them.

"But I think he needs trust. He is playing after many months of not being able to work normally, for different reasons. Now I have placed a lot of trust in him, he must demonstrate why he's here."
