Manchester City's Pablo Zabaleta to undergo scan on knee injury

Pablo Zabaleta is set to undergo a scan on his knee on Thursday as Manchester City wait to discover the severity of his knee injury.

Zabaleta, who has already been sidelined for more than a month this season with a medial ligament problem, was stretchered off after being hurt in a challenge with Wilfried Zaha in Wednesday's 5-1 win over Crystal Palace.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini said after the match that Zabaleta, who was making only his fourth start of the season, appeared to have suffered a repeat of his previous problem.

"Pablo had the same injury he had two months ago," Pellegrini said in a news conference. "The same ligament, the same knee. It is the medial ligament of the left knee.

"We cannot know [the severity] until tomorrow [Thursday]."

In Zabaleta's absence, Bacary Sagna, who has only missed one game this season, is set to continue at right-back.

Argentina international Zabaleta becomes the sixth sidelined player in the City squad, although Pellegrini hopes David Silva will be fit for Saturday's game against Norwich and that Fabian Delph will be back for the trip to his former club Aston Villa next week.

Sergio Aguero, Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy remain sidelined.
