David Silva, Eliaquim Mangala injuries add to Man City woe after loss

MANCHESTER -- Manchester City had two additions to their lengthy injury list as both David Silva and Eliaquim Mangala sustained problems on the day their 100 percent start to the Premier League season was ended.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini criticised his defence for conceding "easy goals" as City, who had won their first five league games, lost 2-1 to West Ham at the Etihad Stadium.

Midfielder Silva was named in the starting XI but had trouble with his calf before kick off while defender Mangala was removed at half-time.

"I don't want to use the excuse of David Silva [being injured for] why we didn't win," Pellegrini said in his news conference. "David has a kick in his calf and he tried in the warm-up but he felt his muscle was stiff so he didn't play. Mangala has a muscle injury."

City are already without the injured quintet of Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy, Fabian Delph and Samir Nasri.

Pellegrini's team had not conceded for 572 minutes of Premier League football before Victor Moses opened the scoring and Diafra Sakho then netted what proved West Ham's winner.

"We conceded two easy goals and that maybe was one of the reasons why we didn't win," added Pellegrini. "In the last two games, we didn't play with the concentration and intensity we need in defending.

"One shot at the edge of the box and one corner was all the offensive volume West Ham have. Two balls decide the result. We must concentrate more."

Pellegrini took no pleasure from record signing Kevin De Bruyne's first goal for the club, adding: "It doesn't matter if he scores. The important thing is to win and we didn't win."
