Manchester City set to discover extent of Sergio Aguero injury

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has said he will find out on Monday whether his knee injury will keep him out of Tuesday's Champions League clash against Juventus.

Premier League leaders City announced on their official website that Aguero did not take part in opening training on Monday, although David Silva and Raheem Sterling both featured.

Fernandinho and Samir Nasri were also absent from the session.

Aguero, 27, was forced off in the first half of City's 1-0 win at Crystal Palace on Saturday following a challenge from Scott Dann.

The Sun reports that the Argentina international will miss the group-stage game against Juve, but Aguero said he was still awaiting the results of tests.

Aguero had previously taken to Twitter on Saturday evening to tell fans that the injury was not as bad as first feared.

Silva and Sterling missed the Palace victory through injury and Pellegrini said he was delighted his team still managed to pick up three points despite the pair's absence and Aguero's subsequent early departure.

"I always thought that with a squad, it is so important to have 22 good players, two in each position," he said.

"So to win after the international break against such a strong team as Crystal Palace, and to win without those three important players, of course gives us more trust in our squad."

Juve, meanwhile, will be without Claudio Marchisio on Tuesday after the midfielder sustained an adductor injury, meaning Massimiliano Allegri has only Paul Pogba, Stefano Sturaro and new arrivals Hernanes and Mario Lemina to pick from to form his midfield.
