Sergio Aguero swaps No. 16 shirt for No. 10, makes vow to Man City fans

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has traded his No. 16 squad number on the eve of the new season, but is making sure his fans are not left out of pocket because of the late decision.

Aguero has worn 16 since arriving at City and enjoyed several stellar moments in it, most memorably scoring the goal which won the 2012 title.

However, Aguero will now wear the No. 10 shirt formerly belonging to Roma-bound Edin Dzeko.

Aguero is arguably City's most popular player and as such, it is likely that many fans will have had his name and number printed on their replica shirts which, according to City's website, start at £34 for infants, £43 for children and £55 for adults.

But not wanting to see his fans short changed, Aguero has offered to either sign their out-of-date shirt or pay for a replacement bearing his new number.

"The No. 10 shirt means a lot to me," he told City's official website. "When I arrived at City, Edin had it -- he wore it very well, and of course, I respected it.

"That's why I picked the No. 16. I must admit, I have warmed to it over the past few years and shared many special moments in it but the No. 10 shirt is very special for me.

"I always felt a connection to it, and even more so now."

Fans who bought their 2015-16 shirts from official Man City stores can send them in by Aug. 28 for exchange or a signature.

City said it would donate the No. 16 shirts to a local charity.
