Raheem Sterling worth the money Man City paid - Manuel Pellegrini

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says that Raheem Sterling will show why the club paid £49 million to sign him from Liverpool this season.

Sterling, 20, netted his first goal for the club on his debut for City after less than three minutes against Roma last week and the winger bagged two more in the eight-goal demolition of Vietnam in Hanoi.

And Pellegrini believes that his new signing will bring an extra dimension to City with his pace up front.

"He is a very good player, that's why we brought him to our team," he said. "He has a lot of things we didn't have in our squad. If you watch the way he played tonight he has a lot of pace and I am sure in the future he will demonstrate why we paid so much money for him.

"I was very surprised because it is not easy to score eight goals, but Vietnam is a team that must prepare for qualification for the next World Cup, and they have time. They start playing in September or October so have to work hard, but they have very good players."

David Silva and Aleksandar Kolarov also scored twice, while Marcos Lopes and Jose Angel Pozo grabbed the other goals, as City won 8-1 at the My Dinh National Stadium, with Pellegrini confident that City can improve on their efforts last season when they finished second in the Premier League, but did not land any silverware.

"We have to work hard in the next two weeks as we start the Premier League on Aug. 10," he added. "I hope we will have a good performance. Last year we were runners-up behind Chelsea and I hope this time we can win the title.

"It's a very close Premier League with five or six important teams so it's difficult to win it. But I am sure we will see Manchester City again fighting for the title.

"In the Champions League, we have improved the last two seasons as we reached the last-16 which we never did before. After that we were very unlucky to draw Barcelona but this year I hope we will reach the last eight."
