Samir Nasri not scared of Raheem Sterling, Fabian Delph City arrivals

Samir Nasri says the recent arrivals of Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph at Manchester City don't scare him, and has hailed the club for bringing in such quality players this summer.

Sterling, 20, came from Liverpool for an eye-opening £49 million last week, while midfielder Delph surprisingly signed with City on Friday, just days after pledging his loyalty to Aston Villa.

Both are viewed as players who can immediately challenge for starting XI places in Manuel Pellegrini's lineup this season, and Nasri welcomes their addition to a talented City squad.

"If you want to be competitive, you have to have good players and a good bench as well," said Nasri. "They [City] can buy anyone they want. If you want to play, you have to perform in training. When you get some games, you have to take the opportunity.

"I have never been scared of anyone and it is not today that I am going to be scared of anyone. The only way we will improve is buying players like Raheem and Fabian. They are a good additions for the squad.

"Raheem is one of the hottest prospects in world football. Delph is a box-to-box midfielder and we need both of them. I think what the club has done this year is really smart. But you have to fight for your place every time."

Nasri suffered through a disappointing 2014-15 campaign beset by inconsistent play and an injury. But the former French international says there's no talk of a move away from the Etihad for the midfielder.

"I spoke with the manager and he told me he wanted me to stay," Nasri said. "The club did as well. Yes, I had a bad season. I didn't do everything right. It is not always the fault of someone else. Sometimes it is your own fault.

"Maybe I didn't do everything right. I had some injuries and I will try to work harder. We will see. I went on holiday [to Los Angeles] with my friends, with the people that I love and I just didn't think about football.

"I had two weeks not doing anything, just thinking about something else. Now I am right into it and starting to work again.

"I looked back [at last season] and thought 'that is not the player who I am; that is not my quality.' I am ready to work now."

And while Nasri is focused on training, Pellegrini reminded that more reinforcements could be coming in the form of Wolfsburg winger Kevin de Bruyne.

"Samir knows he can be very important to our team," said Pellegrini. "He didn't have a very good season last season but I am sure we will see again the Samir of two seasons ago. We will see in the future if we buy another one."
