Manuel Pellegrini confident about Manchester City stay next season

A bullish Manuel Pellegrini showed confidence that he expects to be at Manchester City next season by saying his future is "clear."

The Chilean is under contract until 2016, but his position has been under threat during a troubled 2015 when City failed to retain the Premier League title and endured a run of six defeats in eight games. There were rumours last week that Pep Guardiola, a long-term target for City, had verbally agreed to join them in the summer, although they were dismissed and the Spaniard declared he will stay at Bayern Munich.

But Pellegrini declared he was unconcerned by such tales, saying in a news conference: "I have my own future so clear so it doesn't matter."

Sources had already said that Jurgen Klopp will not be a target for City when he leaves Borussia Dortmund while reports Carlo Ancelotti has agreed to join them are understood to be wide of the mark.

Pellegrini is confident he does not need to discuss such things with his superiors, adding: "I don't have to talk about it."

The former Villarreal, Malaga and Real Madrid manager has begun his planning for next season and said that the Argentinian trio of top-scorer Sergio Aguero and defenders Pablo Zabaleta and Martin Demichelis, plus Brazil midfielder Fernandinho, will not be involved in their preseason tour if they are involved in the latter stages of the Copa America.

"We will try for all the players to have at least 30 days of holidays," he explained. "If they finish at the end of the Copa America it's difficult for them to start the preseason in Australia."

Pellegrini admitted he is no nearer to knowing if James Milner, who is out of contract in the summer, will reject City's offer of a new deal and leave on a free transfer.

He added: "It's an issue for James to decide. The moment we finish the season we will know what he wants for his future. He knows what the club thinks about him and we wait for his decision."

Pellegrini voiced his frustration at Dimitri Seluk, Yaya Toure's outspoken agent, who said last week that the Ivorian is "90 percent certain" to leave City in the summer.

"I am surprised with lot of things with Yaya's agent said this season," the 61-year-old added.

Pellegrini ignored questions about Gareth Bale, who has been tipped to leave Real Madrid but is more likely to be a target for Manchester United if he does become available.

The Chilean said in a recent interview that he wants to add a "crack" player (a superstar) to his squad.

And he added: "I said that every important team it's good for the team to buy important players every year if they can."
