Sergio Aguero: Winning finish can set up Man City title challenge next season

Sergio Aguero thinks Manchester City can pave the way for a Premier League title challenge next season by finishing the current campaign in winning style.

After a run of six defeats in eight games, City have won their last four matches and Aguero's hat trick helped secure their biggest league victory of the season when they beat QPR 6-0 on Sunday.

Manuel Pellegrini's side visit Swansea before hosting Southampton on the final day, and they have the chance to end the campaign on a run of six successive victories that their top scorer hopes will help them regain the title next season.

"We want to finish the best we can and start next season fighting for every title," Aguero said.

"We lost a lot of points this season and now we are in good form, having won four games in a row, so we must continue like this for the two remaining games.

"[Pellegrini] was happy and asks us to keep the same level for the two remaining games because we need to finish good, so he asks us to continue like this."

Aguero took his tally for the season to 31 goals, including 25 in the Premier League, with his treble that helped to relegate QPR.

It puts him five clear of Tottenham's Harry Kane in the race for the Golden Boot, and he added: "I'm happy with my hat trick and now we have two games left so hopefully I can win the award."

City's goal difference means they are in effect guaranteed a top-three finish, but Aguero is aiming to edge out Arsenal for second place behind champions Chelsea.

"To be second or third is the same in terms of Champions League qualification, but we would like to finish second because we always want to finish as high as we can in the table," he added.
