Pellegrini: City more than Aguero (1:11)

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini believes his side deserves more credit after their 2-0 win in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. (1:11)

Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that Vincent Kompany and David Silva are both ready to return for Manchester City in Saturday's clash at Leicester.

City captain Kompany has missed the Premier League champions' last three games with calf and hamstring problems and, despite travelling to Italy, did not recover in time to feature in Wednesday's Champions League 2-0 win over Roma.

But manager Pellegrini told a news conference: "Vincent is on the squad list so I think he will not have any problems to play [on Saturday].

Midfielder Silva has not started since October because of a knee injury, but made his comeback as a second-half substitute at the Stadio Olimpico.

And Pellegrini said: "At least he played already 30 minutes and he didn't feel any pain in his knee so I think he could be fit to play in the starting XI."

City will definitely be without their 19-goal top scorer Sergio Aguero, who will be sidelined for a minimum of a month with the knee injury he suffered against Everton on Saturday.

But Pellegrini railed against the depiction of City as a one-man team and argued their victory against Roma proved they can prevail without several key players.

"The only part where I read or I heard we were just Sergio Aguero was in the media," he said. "So they must say what happened with that team that we could win without Sergio, without Yaya [Toure, who was suspended], without Kompany, with just Silva for 30 minutes.

"I always say we have a team and in that team, Sergio is a very important player, one of the most important players, like [Cristiano] Ronaldo is for Real Madrid or [Lionel] Messi for Barcelona.

"But I don't think that team depends just on Sergio Aguero. I don't know why you start talking about that because we won the Premier League and the [Capital One] Cup last year playing at least 14 or 15 games without Sergio.

"We are a very important team and he is a great striker and we need him urgently to come back but we have a squad that can win without Sergio and other players also."

No City player other than Aguero has managed more than six goals this season, but Pellegrini insists their collective excellence has helped him to become so prolific.

He added: "Sergio was in a very good moment [before he was injured], scoring a lot of goals, but for him to score those goals was also because the team played an important way to be an offensive team."
