Bacary Sagna: Manchester City must match Sergio Aguero's standards

Bacary Sagna has said Manchester City cannot continue to rely on Sergio Aguero's goals if they want to challenge for trophies this season.

While City have struggled in recent weeks -- picking up just one win from six games in all competitions -- Aguero, 26, has been one of the few players to impress.

The Argentina international netted a brace against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday to salvage a 2-2 draw for the Premier League champions, and also scored the winner in their previous league clash at home to rivals Manchester United.

Aguero's goals at QPR took his tally to 14 from 16 games this season, but Sagna feels the rest of the City squad need to start matching the striker's performance levels.

"We all need to rise up -- we are all good players," Sagna told Manchester Evening News.

"There is a reason we play for City. We want to show everyone we can play for this team and succeed. We have plenty of games left, and we want to keep our heads up.

"As long as Sergio scores that is good -- but we have a lot of good players who can do it. He is the one who changed the game [against QPR]. He scored twice, but we have many players who can do it. As long as he keeps pulling the team up, we want to show we can raise our game and succeed.

"Defensively we can do better -- they created a lot of chances. It is difficult to play a team in good form like QPR, but we just want to think positively. We lost a few games recently, and it was important not to lose this one."

While Sagna is well aware of City's recent slump in form, he is confident that they will soon be firing on all cylinders once again.

"We just need to work," he added. "The team keeps working, we trust each other, we want to do well and succeed for the club and for the fans. We will come back to our best."
