Fernandinho: I'm over World Cup now and focused on Manchester City

Fernandinho says he has put his World Cup nightmare behind him and is adamant it is not affecting his form for Manchester City this season.

The 29-year-old played in Brazil's 7-1 defeat to Germany, which equalled his nation's biggest ever loss and was the worst ever result recorded in a World Cup semifinal.

Fernandinho, who joined City partly because he wanted to increase his chances of breaking into the Brazil squad, had been promoted to the starting XI during the tournament, but was taken off after 45 minutes in Belo Horizonte, with his side already 5-0 down.

But while the midfielder admits he was suffering for the next few weeks, he insists it is now having no impact on him anymore.

Fernandinho told a news conference: "I felt very bad for two weeks or the first month after the World Cup, but when I came back to Manchester City I just [concentrated on] the Premier League and the Champions League and the World Cup stays in the past. Now I think just about Man City and try to give my best performance and try and do the same thing I did last season."

Fernandinho was an automatic choice for City for much of last season but has only begun four of their 10 Premier League games in the current campaign.

But the former Shakhtar Donetsk player, who has kept his place in the Brazil squad, says he has no complaints with Manuel Pellegrini's team selections.

He added: "I am working every day and we will see what happens in the future. I will try to do my best. It is the manager's decision and you have to respect that."
