Caballero vows to keep Hart out

After starting against Arsenal in the Community Shield, new Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero is set to challenge Joe Hart for the club's number one shirt.

Willy Caballero vowed to do his best to keep Joe Hart out of Manchester City's Premier League side after being preferred to the England international in the Community Shield.

- Curtis: Lethargic City have work to do

The Argentine linked up with his former Malaga manager Manuel Pellegrini again after completing a 4.4 million-pound move to City.

And while he replaced Costel Pantilimon, who only started seven league games in his whole City career, Caballero was chosen to face Arsenal at Wembley and insisted he wants to be more than just Hart's deputy.

He said: "I want to try to make the boss make a decision for the start of the Premier League, for me or Joe."

Asked if he had arrived to challenge Hart for the status of City's first-choice goalkeeper, Caballero replied: "I come here for this."

Caballero was unable to prevent Arsenal recording a convincing victory, beaten by well-worked goals from Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey before second-half substitute Olivier Giroud cracked in a third from 25 yards.

"It was an important match for me," Caballero said. "I have a chance to play. I am happy for this, but not for the score.

"I have been training well, but there is no doubt that this was not one of my best games -- they attacked three or four times and they scored three goals. "However, the decision (about who plays) is for the manager."

The 32-year-old played in more of the Premier League champions' preseason games than Hart, but the younger man missed the start of their tour to the United States after he was granted time off following the World Cup.

Manager Pellegrini, who said on Friday that he had two first-choice goalkeepers, reiterated that in his news conference after the 3-0 Community Shield defeat to Arsenal.

He said: "The 22 players we have in the squad must demonstrate who is the No. 1 in all the positions."
