Edin Dzeko, Man City in contract talks

Edin Dzeko helped City reach the 100-goal mark for the season vs. Villa.
Edin Dzeko says the appointment of Manuel Pellegrini has made all the difference during his time at Man City.

Edin Dzeko is in talks with Manchester City about a new contract and said he is happy to stay with the Premier League champions.

The Bosnia international, who joined from Wolfsburg in January 2011, is out of contract next summer but is likely to put pen to paper on an extended deal.

"I can only say that I'm very happy at City and at the moment we are talking about a contract," he said at a news conference in New York where City face Liverpool on Wednesday.

"We will see what happens but the main thing is I'm happy at City."

Dzeko enjoyed the best season of his City career last year as he scored 26 goals, including four in the final three games, as they won a second league title in his stay in England.

Although manager Manuel Pellegrini signed two other strikers, Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic last summer, Dzeko ended the campaign as an automatic choice in the Chilean's side.

The 28-year-old had seemed set to leave the club in 2013 when he cut a disgruntled figure but attributed his new-found happiness to the appointment of Pellegrini.

He added: "I spoke about that at the beginning of last season. It is very important that you feel the confidence that a manager has in you and last season was proof of everything I said."

Dzeko, who cost City 27 million pounds, has scored 66 goals in 154 games for the club.

His close friend Aleksandar Kolarov and Samir Nasri have already signed contract extensions this summer.
