Kompany limps out of training

Manchester City are confident captain Vincent Kompany could be fit to face Liverpool on Sunday, despite limping out of training on Saturday.

Pictures showed the Belgium international being helped off the pitch at City's Carrington training ground, reportedly after landing awkwardly when challenging for a header. But sources at the club told ESPN it was purely precautionary and Kompany will travel with the squad to Anfield to face the league leaders.

And Kompany could well keep his place in a defence that has only conceded two goals in their last seven league games. If he is not fit, Joleon Lescott is the likely partner for Martin Demichelis as City's other specialist central defender, Matija Nastasic, is injured.

City, who have only lost twice in the league this season when Kompany has played, go to Anfield four points behind Liverpool, but with two games in hand.
