Nasri: Cup win brings me so much joy

Samir Nasri spoke of his pride and joy after helping Manchester City beat Sunderland 3-1 in the Capital One Cup final on Sunday, and hopes it is hopes is just the start of their quest for silverware this season.

Jubilant scenes after Samir Nasri put Man City 2-1 up against Sunderland.
Samir Nasri scored a superb volley to put Manchester City 2-1 ahead against Sunderland.

• Delaney: Class prevails

The first trophy of the Manuel Pellegrini era was won the hard way after City fell behind to Fabio Borini's clinical first-half opener, but the Premier League title challengers roared back after the break.

Yaya Toure's stunning 30-yard strike levelled the scores, and Nasri notched a crisp second within two minutes. Jesus Navas added the gloss late on, and Nasri says the victory can be the start of a famous season for Pellegrini's men.

"I feel so much joy, so much pride as well,'' Nasri told Sky Sports. "It was really important to win. In the second half we came with better intention and we scored three goals. I'm really happy, I hope that this cup is going to bring some others.''

City will now hope to add the league title to their list of honours this season, while they are also in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

The Champions League represents a more fanciful aim, with Pellegrini's men trailing Barcelona 2-0 after the first leg of their last-16 tie, but Nasri is not giving up hope.

"We want to win everything; we're going to compete for the league, for the FA cup, and we're going to try and make something happen in the Champions League -- it's going to be difficult,'' he continued.

Nasri had wound up on the losing side in his previous two Wembley finals -- most recently in last year's FA Cup final against Wigan -- and the France international admitted memories of last May came flooding back when Sunderland took the lead.

"Our first half, there was memories of Wigan,'' he added. "We said [at half-time] that we need to stay clam, to remain focused and play our football."

Sergio Aguero meanwhile revealed that  City “needed” to win on Sunday after last year’s FA Cup defeat to Wigan, and is pleased with his comeback after an injury layoff.

“We didn’t want to return to the feeling we suffered after what happened last year against Wigan,” he said. “We won though. The club needed it, and us [the squad] too.

“It’s good, I didn’t feel [the injury]. It’s good to play. You always have that fear it’ll come back, but it came out well.”

Aguero also stated that he was happy for Pellegrini, who won his first ever trophy in Europe: “Yes, happy for him, we adapted very quickly to the play he wanted.

“Every manager is different but, Manuel, what he does is talk to people a lot, treats us all the same, uses phrases to motivate.”

Aguero revealed his delight at the cup win on his Twitter account.
