Faiz Subri honored by Sultan of Kedah after winning FIFA Puskas Award

Despite Penang's miserable start to the season, FIFA Puskas winner Faiz Subri has picked another major honour.

The 29-year-old winger received the Ahli Cermerlang Semangat Jeri Kedah honorary medal from the Sultan of Kedah on Monday.

This was after Faiz's remarkable free kick defeated the likes of Neymar and Lionel Messi to win the best goal of 2016 at January's world football awards in Switzerland.

According to the New Straits Times, Faiz was among 164 recipients conferred with honorary titles and medals at the investiture ceremony in Alor Setar, in conjunction with the 89th birthday of the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, the Sultan of Kedah.

Faiz scored his goal for Penang against Pahang in a Malaysia Super League game on Feb. 16 last year in a 4-1 victory in which he picked up a brace.

He also found the net in the MSL on Saturday night, but couldn't prevent the flailing Panthers from falling to a 3-1 defeat against the league leaders.

Penang have lost all six games in 2017 to earn the unwanted title of the worst-ever start to an MSL season. They sit in bottom spot, six points from safety.

Faiz was born in Ayer Hitam in Kedah and was a junior with the state before making his professional debut with Perlis in 2010. He's also played for T-Team, Kelantan and Terengganu, in addition to Penang.
