Johor princess takes over as JDT president, pledges to work with TMJ

The newly installed president of Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) has vowed to build on the foundation set by the Crown Prince of Johor to take the club to greater heights.

Tunku Tun Aminah Sultan Ibrahim is the younger princess sister of the Crown Prince, better known as TMJ.

Announced on the club's Facebook page, Tunku Tun Aminah took over the Southern Tigers' throne on Thursday, replacing Ismail Karim, who stepped down.

She promised to uphold the success that has seen the club clinch six trophies since 2014.

"I have witnessed the hard work my brother TMJ put into the club over the past few years. I can see that it's not about just one team, there are many aspects to the club, from the academy to the first team. This is a big club and a big project," said Tunku Tun Aminah on the Southern Tigers Facebook page.

"It's an honour to be provided this opportunity and I promise to do my best to assist my brother and everyone involved in the club in any way, so that we can continue to make this club even greater."

JDT, who have already clinched the Charity Shield and FA Cup this season, are one win away from adding a third domestic title to their trophy cabinet.

Mario Gomez's men edged closest rivals Felda United 3-2 in the Malaysia Super League (MSL) on Wednesday night, and are now seven points clear with only three games remaining.

Victory at home to Terengganu on Sept. 9 will see them crowned MSL champions for the third consecutive time, making them the first team to achieve that feat.

JDT are also three games away from securing an unbeaten league season, another milestone that has never been achieved.

In addition, the big spenders are on course in their AFC Cup title defence, and play Hong Kong's South China in a two-legged quarterfinal next month.
