Singapore's Safuwan sets PDRM on way to victory over Terengganu in MSL

Singapore international Safuwan Baharudin scored the opening goal to help PDRM FA move into third place in the Malaysia Super League (MSL) on Sunday evening with a 3-1 home victory over Terengganu.

The 24-year-old, operating as a box-to-box midfielder, put in another lively performance for the club he joined this season after the disbandment of LionsXII last year.

The win puts the hosts ahead of Selangor on goal difference, although both teams are seven points behind leaders Felda United who took top spot on Friday.

PDRM drew first blood in the sixth minute as the midfieler scored his second MSL goal of the season.

On the half-hour, the Turtles equalised through Joseph Kalang Tie only for Ali Ashfaq to restore the Cops' lead after the break.

With 13 minutes remaining, Kalang Tie and PDRM defender Souleymane Konate were both shown red cards after an ugly incident.

The tone for an ill-tempered match had been set from the third minute when Terengganu defender Vincent Bikana was shown a yellow card.

There was still time for Amir Saiful to seal the win with a goal a minute from the end.

It was PDRM's third victory in seven games this season and they have the MSL's third best defensive record with only seven goals conceded.
