Kelantan FA president reassures K. Devan over coaching future
Kelantan FA president Tan Sri Annuar Musa has put an end to speculation that the club are looking to replace head coach K. Devan.
The Red Warriors are fourth in the Malaysia Super League (MSL) after two games -- a 0-0 draw with Perak and a 1-0 win over PDRM -- and are also through to the next round of the FA Cup after a narrow 1-0 win over UKM FC in the second round.
Annuar, has dismissed rumours of a possible early season coach replacement, insisting that Devan "is the right man" to take Kelantan forward.
"Devan is doing a fantastic job with the team... the players are performing well on the pitch. We have yet to concede a goal or suffer a defeat in our first three games, so, why should we change the coach?" he told The Star.
"We will call him [Devan] if he fails to meet our expectations... and we'll discuss where and how we can further improve the team."
Doubts over Devan's future surfaced after the club's advisor Datuk Seri Hasmiza Othman, better known to the fans as Datuk Vida, raised her concerns over the team's lack of goals -- two in three matches.
"She [Datuk Vida] is our main sponsor and a Kelantan football fan. I tried to follow what Johor Darul Ta'zim owner Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim is doing with his team... listening to the fans. What she said should be taken as an advice to help spur the players to perform better," Annuar added.
The flamboyant advisor has been in the news for much of the preseason, after insisting the team have to don pink jerseys to look "fiery and eye-catching" and also has plans to paint Kelantan's home ground, Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium in Kota Bharu pink.
Kelantan will host K Rajagopal's Sarawak FA on Friday, with the chance to go top of the league standings if they manage a home win.
