Safuwan scores brace but PDRM slump to defeat in MSL trial match

Singapore international Safuwan Baharudin continued his goal scoring preseason form by picking up a brace for his new Malaysia Super League (MSL) club PDRM FA in a trial match on Wednesday.

The ex-LionsXII utility player netted from open play and also from the penalty spot but couldn't prevent his new side from falling to a 6-3 defeat to Air Asia FC at Bangi.

Air Asia play in the third-tier Malaysia FAM League and are backed by airline magnate Tony Fernandes, who is chairman of English second tier club, Queens Park Rangers.

Safuwan has now scored three goals in PDRM's pre-season after finding the net on last week's tour of Thailand, operating as a central midfielder.

Against Air Asia, PDRM were immediately on the back foot in an ill-tempered game, with Air Asia's Zamri Moshidi taking advantage of some shoddy defending to score a hat-trick.

Safuwan converted a penalty to make it 3-2 before scoring a long range goal midway through the second half when PDRM trailed 6-2.

PDRM's other goal came from Maldives' forward Ali Ashfaq, who is already forming a good understanding with Singapore import Safuwan.

After finishing sixth in the 2015 MSL season, PDRM open their 2016 campaign at home to Sarawak on Feb. 13.
