Malaga's Sandro Ramirez excited about 'returning home' vs. Barcelona

Malaga striker Sandro Ramirez will cast old friendships to one side on Saturday when he looks to continue his good run in front of goal against former side Barcelona.

Sandro, 21, has scored four goals in his last five games and five in total since joining Malaga from Barca on a free transfer in the summer.

The Spaniard signed for the Blaugrana from Las Palmas in 2009, but left in search of regular football after scoring seven goals in 32 first-team appearances for the club.

"I'm returning home, returning to Camp Nou," he said. "It will be a special game because I'll see all my old teammates, who gave me everything when I was promoted to the first team. So I'm really looking forward to it.

"But it's going to be very difficult; we will have to go out with all our weapons. We're going to have to go for the game. We have to score because the statistics show that Barca always score at home, so we have to go for the game to get something from it."

Sandro concedes it took him a few weeks to adapt to life away from Barcelona after spending seven years in Catalonia, but five goals in his last seven appearances suggests he has now found his feet.

His form in front of goal has coincided with Malaga's upturn in results, too, with Juande Ramos' side winning four of their last seven games and climbing into the top half of the La Liga table.

"You have to adapt to another style of football, another team, different teammates," Sandro said. "But I think I'm doing OK, we're doing OK. The most important thing is the team, right? We've got a good dynamic at the moment. We have to continue this way.

"Now we have to go to a difficult ground [the Camp Nou], where you have to go out and give everything. I hope we can continue our good form, but if not we'll work hard to make sure we do [afterwards]."

Sandro says he has no doubts as to where Malaga should be come the end of the season.

"The fans and ourselves expect to be much higher because we have a team capable of fighting for Europe," he said. "Osasuna's late equaliser [at the start of the season] dented our morale, but we continued working, fighting, and we have a team to be up the top and to fight for Europe. We will keep fighting to be where the club and the fans deserve to be."
