Miami, Nashville expansion draft set for Nov. 19

The 2019 MLS Expansion Draft will take place on Nov. 19, with Inter Miami CF and Nashville SC able to select five players each, the league announced on Thursday.

Each of the current 24 MLS team may protect up to 12 rostered players -- one more than in prior years -- from inclusion on the eligible players list. The complete list of players eligible for selection in the 2019 MLS Expansion Draft will be released on Saturday, Nov. 16.

Teams who had a player selected during FC Cincinnati's expansion draft in 2018 will be exempt from having a player chosen this year. This list of teams includes D.C. United, FC Dallas, the Houston Dynamo, the New York Red Bulls and the Vancouver Whitecaps.

The league also announced that on Oct. 6 -- the last day of the regular season -- the MLS Priority Draft will take place at 3 p.m. ET in midtown Manhattan. This event will determine which expansion team has first selection among five different player acquisition mechanisms.

These include: No.1 pick in 2019 MLS Expansion Draft, No.1 pick in 2020 MLS SuperDraft, No.1 position in Allocation Ranking Order, penultimate position in MLS Re-Entry and End-of-Year Waiver Order and the penultimate position in Discovery Player Ranking.

An opening coin toss for the Expansion Priority Draft will determine which club receives the first pick among the five available methods. Following the first pick, teams will alternate through subsequent selections until all roster-building mechanisms have been chosen.

Inter Miami CF will be represented by managing owner Jorge Mas and sporting director Paul McDonough. Representing Nashville SC will be CEO Ian Ayre and GM Mike Jacobs.
