Landon Donovan: 'Logical' to more games with MLS, Liga MX sides

Follow ChuBoi's journey as he looks into FIFA 19's predictor of how the 2018 Major League Soccer Decision Day will pan out.

Landon Donovan said he believes a potential North American league that features teams from the U.S. and Mexico would be beneficial for both the sport in both countries.

"For me it is logical, because they're the best leagues in this part of the world, they have the biggest players, if we want get better compete with Europe and parts of South America, I think it's important," Donovan told ESPN Deportes.

Donovan won a record six MLS Cups and is both the league's all-time top scorer and assist leader. He wrapped up his club career with a one-season stint at Liga MX side Leon.

Mexican top-flight division Enrique Bonilla said this month that a North American league could be "a possibility" and would serve as a legacy to the 2026 World Cup that will be co-hosted by the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.

Earlier this year, the MLS in the U.S. and Liga MX launched a partnership which included the introduction of the Campeones Cup, a match between the winners of each respective league.

MLS Executive Vice President of Communications Dan Courtemanche told ESPN this month that "we have been discussing with Liga MX additional ways we can collaborate on and off the field, and we are excited about the future opportunities that exist between our two leagues."
