Piatti's brace helps Montreal beat Vancouver to reach Canadian club final

Ignacio Piatti scored two first-half penalties and the Montreal Impact overturned a first-leg deficit to beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 4-2 on Tuesday and 5-4 on aggregate to reach the Canadian Championship final.

Anthony Jackson-Hamel drew a foul in the 20th minute and Piatti converted to put Montreal, who came in trailing 2-1 on aggregate, ahead. The Argentine striker duplicated the feat in the 28th minute after he was fouled in the area to extend the Impact's lead to 2-0 in the match.

The hosts added a third before half-time when Blerim Dzemaili picked up a loose ball in front of the Vancouver goal and smashed it past Whitecaps goalkeeper Spencer Richey.

Alphonso Davies, who came on as a half-time substitute, clawed one back for Vancouver in the 59th minute, but Jackson-Hamel added a goal to go with his assist two minutes later to restore Montreal's three-goal lead.

Vancouver refused to go away though, and Christian Techera set up Kyle Greig in the 77th minute to make the aggregate score 5-4 in favor of Montreal and make for a nervous closing 15 minutes.

However, Montreal saw out the match and now await the winner of Wednesday's other semifinal between Toronto FC and the Ottawa Fury, with the USL side holding a surprising 2-1 advantage after the first leg last week.
