New York Red Bulls edge Vancouver; New England beats Colorado Rapids

Bradley Wright-Phillips scored in the 50th minute and the New York Red Bulls beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 1-0 on Saturday to extend their club-record unbeaten streak to 10 games.

The Red Bulls moved into a tie for second place in the Eastern Conference with Toronto FC.

Wright-Phillips scored his 17th goal to tie for the Major League Soccer scoring lead. He chipped a shot home after Whitecaps defender Jordan Harvey bounced a clearing attempt off him while falling down in the box.

The Whitecaps are winless in eight games. Vancouver coach Carl Robinson was ejected shortly before halftime for protesting a throw-in awarded to New York and faces an automatic one-game suspension.

Juan Agudelo and Chris Tierney scored and the New England Revolution beat the Colorado Rapids 2-0 to end a six-game winless streak.

The Revolution had been shutout four straight times.

Agudelo opened the scoring -- and ended New England's scoring drought -- in the 12th minute. Lee Nguyen, on the right side of the box, dropped a header to a streaking Gershon Koffie who tapped it to Agudelo for the finish off the far post.

Tierney found the top-right corner of the net in the 49th minute. Kelyn Rowe flicked it to Diego Fagundez who, from the top of the box, hit a wide-open Tierney at the corner of the six-yard box to double the advantage.

Brad Knight had his second shutout of the season, including a diving stop of a close-range shot by Dillon Powers in the 18th minute, for the Revolution.

Colorado has lost two straight and is winless in its last four matches.

Michael de Leeuw had a goal and an assist, Arturo Alvarez scored and the Chicago Fire beat the Philadelphia Union 3-0.

Matt Polster tapped a pass to de Leeuw near the spot and Philadelphia's Roland Alberg poked it past goalkeeper John McCarthy for an own goal in the 22nd minute.

De Leeuw's header doubled the advantage in the 71st. On the breakaway, Razvan Cocis fed Luis Solignac whose shot was stopped by McCarthy, but de Leeuw put away the rebound from the right side of the 6-yard box. Alvarez, on the feed from de Leeuw, made it 3-0 in the 90th minute.

Chicago's Sean Johnson had four saves for his fifth shutout of the season.

The Union had won two in a row and three of its last four. The Fire have won three straight at home against Philadelphia.

Mauro Diaz scored a goal and added an assist to help FC Dallas beat the Portland Timbers for the third time this season, 3-1.

MLS-leading Dallas has won two straight to stretch its Western Conference lead to eight points over Real Salt Lake.

The Timbers have lost three of four. They have a three-point lead over San Jose for the sixth playoff spot in the conference.

Diaz scored into the bottom left corner off a penalty in the 14th minute. Michael Barrios crossed to Mauro Rosales, who slid behind a defender in front of the goal and tapped the ball to Victor Ulloa, who fired the rebound under the crossbar to make it 2-0 just before half-time.

Walker Zimmerman added a header goal off Diaz's assist in the 53rd minute. Diego Valeri scored in the 87th minute for the Timbers.

Baggio Husidic and Giovani dos Santos scored second-half goals as the LA Galaxy beat Columbus 2-1 to snap a six-game winless streak.

The Galaxy moved into a three-way tie with Colorado and Real Salt Lake for second place in the Western Conference. The Crew have lost two straight.

Adam Jahn scored in the second minute of second-half stoppage time for the Crew.
