Mexico and PSV Eindhoven star Andres Guardado says MLS is on his radar

GUADALAJARA, Mexico -- The flirtation between Mexico international Andres Guardado and MLS continues, with the PSV midfielder admitting Monday that he has considered a future move to the North American league.

There was reported interest in Guardado from new MLS franchise Atlanta United back in May, as the league looks to add more Mexican talent to supplement LA Galaxy's Giovani Dos Santos and Houston Dynamo's Erick "Cubo" Torres.

"It would be a lie if I told you I hadn't [thought about MLS]," Guardado said in a press conference to announce his new charity. "You start to analyze your future. ... And we know that careers are short as well."

"I will turn 30 in September and I can't close the door on a league that's growing rapidly," added the former Valencia player.

Guardado is due back at PSV for preseason training on Sunday after an extended break following the Copa America Centenario and reaffirmed that he would like to finish his career at first club Atlas. Before then, however, MLS clearly appeals to Guardado, even if he confirmed there is nothing concrete as of yet.

"It is flattering that you are mentioned, because we know the stars that MLS goes after: Pirlo, Lampard, Gerrard, Drogba, Giovinco, Villa," said Guardado. "They are all on a step way above [me]."

MLS commissioner Don Garber was clear back in May that signing more Mexican players was a priority for the development of the league, but stressed it all depends on the individual situation.

"We would love to have the best possible Mexican players that we could convince to come to MLS, but it's up to the player," Garber said.

In the same press conference, Guardado admitted that he is unlikely to be at the Olympics next month, with PSV putting their foot down and refusing to release a player for a tournament that isn't in the official FIFA international calendar.
