Frank Lampard scored a disputed goal late in the first half to help New York City FC beat the Seattle Sounders 2-0 on Saturday.
In the 38th minute, a corner kick by NYCFC's Andrea Pirlo was cleared away from the net, but not out of the penalty area and R.J. Allen lofted it back toward the six-yard box. Lampard, standing a yard inside of it, chested the ball hard to the ground and into the net.
Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei Frei and defender Tyrone Mears immediately gestured that the ball went off of Lampard's arm. Referee Alan Kelly initially signaled it was a goal, then had an extended conversation with linesman Mike Rottersman. Finally, Kelly pointed toward midfield, making it official that the call would stand.
Lampard, whose two goals this season have come in the past two games, insisted the ball hit him on the chest.
"It hit me on the chest. I think it might have deflected off of my a bit as well, bit it was mainly chested," Lampard said. "It was a goal. Sometimes, they go against you. But for me, it was a goal."
Ronald Matarrita added an insurance tally in the 87th minute as New York City FC won its second straight game after a four-game winless streak.
The Sounders dropped their second in a row and fifth in the last six games. They have been shut out in four of those.
Andrew Jacobson, Kekuta Manneh and Christian Bolanos scored and the Vancouver Whitecaps handed the Philadelphia Union their first home loss of the season, 3-2.
The Eastern Conference-leading Union opened the scoring in the 14th minute. Fabian Herbers' shot from 15 yards hit the crossbar and Sebastien Le Toux chested the rebound to Roland Alberg for his fifth goal.
Jacobson tied it five minutes later, heading in a Bolanos corner that went through the hands of Union keeper Andre Blake.
Vancouver made it 2-1 a long counter by Manneh, who ran past two defenders and sent a right-footed shot from just outside the box that deflected in off the right post.
Bolanos put the game away in the 84th minute, taking a pass from Erik Hurtado near the top left corner of the 18-yard box, making a move and right-footing a shot through the legs of defender Keegan Rosenberry for his fifth goal. The ball, which may have deflected off Rosenberry, slipped just inside the left post.
Chris Pontius added a late goal for Philadelphia late in stoppage time, but it was not enough.
Fabian Castillo finished Mauro Diaz's sensational assist in the 58th minute to cap FC Dallas' 2-0 victory over Real Salt Lake.
Taking a feed with his back to the goal, Diaz sent a bicycle kick to Castillo's feet. Castillo made a move to get inside the box, cut inside the defender and sent a 15-foot shot into the far corner.
Diaz also had a heady assist for the opening goal in the 18th minute. Fouled by Jamison Olave near midfield, his quick restart found Michael Barrios behind the defense for a two-man breakaway with Barrios passing left to make Kellyn Acosta's first goal an easy marker.
Second-place FC Dallas snapped a three-game winless streak and moved within a point of Colorado for the conference and overall MLS lead.
Real Salt Lake is third in the conference, four points behind Dallas, after taking only four shots and Chris Seitz didn't have to make a save.
Kaka scored on a penalty in the 10th minute of stoppage time to lift Orlando City past Toronto FC 3-2.
After Justin Morrow had scored an equalizer for Toronto in the 90th minute, Julio Baptista drew the late foul, going to the turf after battling with Toronto's Drew Moor for a diagonal cross into the middle of the area.
There was so much stoppage time because Toronto goalkeeper Clint Irwin left with a leg injury in the 70th minute. He was replaced by Alex Bono, making his first career MLS appearance.
Orlando City had led twice earlier in the game -- first on Cyle Larin's eighth goal of the season in the fifth minute and again when Adrian Winter's header made it 2-1 in the 83rd minute.
Jordan Hamilton tied at 1 in the 47th minute with a left-footed shot that finished Jonathan Osorio's side-footed flick, while Morrow smashed home Sebastian Giovinco's cross to tie it again before Kaka's late winner.
Dom Dwyer scored twice to help Sporting Kansas City rally for a 2-2 draw with the Montreal Impact.
Dwyer continued his dominance over the Impact, scoring his eighth and ninth career goals against Montreal. No other MLS player has more than seven goals against the Impact.
After Lucas Ontivero scored for Montreal, Dwyer's first of the night tied it in the 21st minute. Dwyer got his head on Roger Espinoza's cross from close range, giving goalkeeper Evan Bush no chance to make the save.
Ignacio Piatti again put Montreal ahead, but Dwyer's second goal tied cancelled it out in the 59th minute, firing a left-footed strike from just outside the 18-yard box that found the bottom corner of the net, just out of Bush's reach.
Lamar Neagle had a goal and an assist to give D.C. United an early lead that stood up in a 2-0 victory over the New England Revolution.
D.C., after being shut out in its two previous games and four of six, opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Luciano Acosta chipped a perfect pass over the defense to the foot of Neagle, who volleyed it in from 10 yards out.
Sean Franklin scored the second goal, his first of the season, when he knocked in Neagle's cross. Albaro Saborio sent a long ball down the right sideline that Neagle ran down and crossed to Franklin for the easy counter.
D.C. kept its fourth clean sheet in the last seven games and stayed unbeaten in three games against the Revs this season.
Ola Kamara scored late in stoppage-time to give Columbus Crew SC a 1-1 draw with the New York Red Bulls.
After Bradley Wright-Phillips scored for the Red Bulls in the 52nd minute, Kamara got behind the defense on an inside run and was able to slide and redirect a cross from Waylon Francis for his fifth goal.
The three minutes of stoppage time had already expired, but Red Bulls defender Gideon Baah was injured blocking a shot, leading to more time added on.
Chad Barrett headed home a Shea Salinas free kick in the 90th minute to hand San Jose a 1-1 draw with LA in the final matchup of the California Clasico.
Giovani dos Santos opened the scoring for the Galaxy in the 69th minute, finishing Steven Gerrard's wide cross with a header into the right corner of the goal.
The Galaxy claimed the rivalry cup with a 3-1 victory over the Quakes on March 19 and a 1-1 draw on May 22.
It was the 58th regular-season MLS meeting in the rivalry that started April 28, 1996. The Quakes began hosting the early summer edition of the rivalry in Stanford Stadium in 2012 and set an attendance record Saturday night with 50,816.
