New York City fans left stranded over ticket farce in Toronto draw

It's an early-season matchup of leaders in the Eastern Conference when New York City FC play host to Toronto FC.

New York City FC fans were up in arms after new ticketing measures caused chaos during the Major League Soccer game against Toronto FC on Sunday.

While Andrea Pirlo and his teammates played out an exciting 2-2 draw against Toronto FC at the Yankee Stadium, some fans were left stranded outside the stadium trying to get in.

A David Villa brace for New York gave the home team a two-goal cushion, only for the visitors to hit back through Damien Perguis and former Juventus playmaker Sebastian Giovinco.

NYCFC, who share the ground with Major League Baseball side New York Yankees, announced on Friday that paper tickets, would no longer be accepted at the gates.

This was in tandem with The Yankees recent ticket policy change, where print-at-home tickets were no longer allowed at the door. Fans can only gain entry to the ground through official tickets or have them on their smartphones.

While NYCFC said that the new changes would be phased in, the change led to a long queue outside the stadium for Sunday's game, even after kick-off.

This is the second time in two years, that the Yankee Stadium has incurred the wrath of fans, after additional security measures were introduced in April last year to curb security threats.
