The Vancouver Whitecaps acquired Panama striker Blas Perez on Tuesday in a trade that sent midfielder Mauro Rosales to FC Dallas.

Also on Tuesday, the Whitecaps re-signed standout goalkeeper David Ousted to a multi-year contract extension.

Perez, 34, agreed to a one-year deal with Vancouver after scoring five times in 23 league games for Dallas last season.

He is Panama's all-time leading scorer, finding the net 39 times in 102 appearances. He has scored 36 times in MLS since moving from Mexican club Tigres before the 2012 season.

"We know Blas is an excellent player from playing against him in the past four years and we're excited to get the chance to work with him on a daily basis," Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson said in a statement.

"In the short period of time that he's been here, he's shown how he can help our team, and also our group of forwards improve. We're delighted to have him on board and the guys have welcomed him with open arms."

Rosales, a former Argentina international, came to MLS from River Plate in 2011 and previously played for the Seattle Sounders and Chivas USA.

The 34-year-old joined Vancouver midway through the 2014 season, and scored once in 24 league games last year.

Ousted, 31, has played every minute for Vancouver since making his debut for the club in August 2013.

He was the only keeper to be named player of the month last season, and he finished second for the league's goalkeeper of the year award.

"David is one of our leaders in this club and re-signing him was a top priority," Robinson said. "He's an integral part of the spine of the team, a character guy in the locker room, and since he joined us he has proven time and time again that he is one of the best, if not the best, goalkeeper in the league. We're thrilled to have him in Vancouver for the long term."
