Ashley Cole settles Roma contract, cleared for LA Galaxy move - sources

Former England international defender Ashley Cole has agreed to a settlement of his contract with Serie A side Roma, clearing the way for him to sign a non-Designated Player deal with the LA Galaxy, sources confirmed to ESPN FC.

The L.A. Times first reported the news.

A source with knowledge of the negotiations also confirmed the L.A. Times report that no Targeted Allocation Money would be applied to Cole's contract, should he indeed end up signing with the Galaxy. The source added that Roma will still be paying the vast majority of Cole's salary, with the Galaxy's portion is set to come out to around $300,000 per year.

Cole has been frozen out at current side AS Roma after refusing to cancel his contract at the beginning of the current season. After leaving Premier League side Chelsea in the summer of 2014, Cole made just 13 league and cup appearances with Roma during the 2014-15 campaign.

Prior to that, Cole was regarded as model of consistency at both club and international level. He spent eight seasons with Arsenal, winning two Premier League titles, three FA Cups and two Community Shields.

He then moved to Chelsea where he won one more league title, four more FA Cups and a League Cup. He also won a Champions League medal and a Europa League title during his time with the Blues.

Cole made a total of 107 international appearances with England and played in three World Cups.
