Red Bulls' Matt Miazga named U.S. Young Male Player of the Year

Matt Miazga starred for the Red Bulls and rose through the U.S. ranks in 2015.

New York Red Bulls defender Matt Miazga was named Young Male Player of the Year by U.S. Soccer on Friday.

Miazga, 20, secured a spot in the Red Bulls' first team this season, helping New York win the MLS Supporters' Shield.

He finished fourth in Major League Soccer's voting for Defender of the Year.

Miazga also starred on international duty for the United States under-20 side, starting 11 games, including all four at the Under-20 World Cup.

He then played in all of the Under-23 squad's Olympic qualifiers, and earned his first cap with the senior team in November in a World Cup qualifier against St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

Mallory Pugh was named Young Female Player of the Year, while Kevin Hensley won Young Disabled Player of the Year.

The awards are voted on by U.S. national team and youth team coaches and staff, players who earned a cap, MLS and NASL coaches and selected media and former U.S. players and officials.
