Houston Dynamo cancel friendly against Manchester City after flooding

The Houston Dynamo were forced to cancel their friendly against Manchester City on Thursday after match officials deemed the pitch unsafe.

The game at BBVA Compass Stadium could not go forward after extreme flooding in the area earlier this week.

The Dynamo said they will reschedule their charity match for another date this season, but it will be aganist a different opponent.

Manchester City had been set to play their second friendly in two days after defeating Toronto FC 1-0 on Wednesday.

They will travel to New York to watch their sister club New York City FC play the Dynamo in an MLS game at Yankee Stadium on Saturday.

City manager Manuel Pellegrini said in a statement: "We are bitterly disappointed for our fans, and for those of Houston Dynamo, that the match has been cancelled.

"We had travelled to Houston from Toronto in anticipation of a great game of football and we recognise many fans have also travelled long distances.

"We thank the entire Houston Dynamo team for their efforts in preparing for the match and regret that the game could not be played."
