Montreal Impact advance past Toronto FC in Canadian Championship

TORONTO -- Dominic Oduro scored in the 84th minute and the Montreal Impact advanced to the Canadian Championship final Wednesday night, beating Toronto FC on an away goal in the two-game series.

Toronto FC won 3-2 on the night, but the aggregate was 3-3, thanks to a 1-0 victory in the first leg in Montreal last week.

Kenny Cooper also scored for Montreal, whose first-leg goal came from Jack McInerney.

The Impact advanced to the final of the CONCACAF Champions League this year, losing to Club America of Mexico.

Jozy Altidore, Benoit Cheyrou and Sebastian Giovinco scored for Toronto.

Gershon Koffie scored in the 87th minute and the Vancouver Whitecaps tied FC Edmonton 1-1 on Wednesday night in the first leg of their Canadian Championship semifinal series.

Tomi Ameobi scored for Edmonton of the North American Soccer League.

The second leg is next week in Edmonton. The start of the series was delayed a week after a snowstorm blanketed the field in Edmonton.

The winner of the series will face Montreal in the final for a spot in the 2016-17 CONCACAF Champions League.
