MLS suspends Rapids' Sarvas, Sounders' Marshall

NEW YORK -- The Major League Soccer disciplinary committee has suspended Colorado midfielder Marcelo Sarvas for two games and Seattle defender Chad Marshall for one game for actions last week.

MLS announced the suspensions Thursday. Sarvas will miss Colorado's games against FC Dallas and New York Red Bulls, while Marshall will be on the sideline Sunday when Seattle hosts rival Portland.

Sarvas was suspended for fouling and then stepping on Seattle striker Clint Dempsey. Earlier in the same game, Marshall was given a yellow card for his hard tackle of Colorado's Vicente Sanchez. Sarvas and Marshall were also fined.

MLS also announced that Columbus violated the league's mass confrontation policy in the 33rd minute of its match against Orlando City last week.
