Former Barcelona captain Carles Puyol is considering returning as a player in either the U.S. or Middle East, say media reports in Spain.
Sport claims that MLS side Colorado Rapids have made contact with a "big offer" of a contract, while rival publication Mundo Deportivo says that a team in New York are best placed, although neither cite club sources.
Puyol, 37, retired from the game at the end of the 2013-14 season, after struggling with persistent serious knee problems for over two years.
The winner of three Champions Leagues and six La Liga titles during 15 seasons with the Catalan club, and Euro 2008 and World Cup 2010 with Spain, was immediately offered a job in Barca's "technical department."
However, that did not work out and he resigned in January when his friend and mentor Andoni Zubizarreta was fired by club chief Josep Maria Bartomeu.
Currently living in New York with his partner, Puyol has reportedly been working hard on his fitness, meaning he may be able to play again -- with potential options including playing in either MLS or Qatar.
