D.C. United make Fabian Espindola designated player for 2015

D.C. United and Fabian Espindola on Thursday reached an agreement to extend the Argentine forward's contract option and give him designated player status.

"Fabian is coming off his best year in MLS last season and he deserves to be a Designated Player," D.C. United general manager Dave Kasper said. "He is in the prime of his career, and we look forward to his future contributions to our club."

Espindola is now D.C. United's second DP after Eddie Johnson. The 29-year-old is starting his second season with the club after 11 goals and nine assists last season.

D.C. finished atop the Eastern Conference in 2014.
