Colorado to host MLS All-Star Game in July

Major League Soccer will host its annual All-Star Game in Colorado this season, the league announced on Wednesday.

The game between the MLS All-Stars and an opponent to be announced will take place at the Colorado Rapids' Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City on July 29.

"Colorado has become a destination for marquee soccer events, and we are thrilled to bring the AT&T All-Star Game to the region," MLS commissioner Don Garber said in a league statement. "Dick's Sporting Goods Park is a tremendous stadium, and we know the enthusiastic support of Centennial 38 and other Rapids fans will provide a great home-field advantage for the MLS All-Stars."

The All-Star Game last came to suburban Denver in 2007, when the league beat Scottish club Celtic 2-0.

This year, the All-Stars will once again play a major foreign club still to be determined. The MLS is 8-3-1 against clubs in these games after defeating Bayern Munich last summer.
