LA Galaxy send midfielder Marcelo Sarvas to Rapids

The LA Galaxy sent midfielder Marcelo Sarvas to the Colorado Rapids on Thursday in exchange for the the third allocation ranking and allocation money, the clubs announced.

The Galaxy also received an international roster spot in the deal that they can use on new signing Steven Gerrard when he arrives in the summer.

"He is an experienced pro, he's a winner, he's a competitior, and he puts the team before himself," Rapids coach Pablo Mastroeni told MLSsoccer.com. "We need someone that can guide these guys and I think he's one of those players that we looked to acquire.

"Marcelo fits the mold for the kind of player I like in the midfield."

The Brazilian Sarvas, 33, has scored 19 goals since joining the Galaxy in 2011 in 88 games and won MLS Cups in 2012 and 2014.

"We thank Marcelo for all of his contributions to our team over the past three seasons," Galaxy coach and GM Bruce Arena said in a statement. "We wish Marcelo the best of luck in Colorado."
