D.C. United's Bill Hamid voted MLS Goalkeeper of the Year

NEW YORK -- D.C. United's Bill Hamid is Major League Soccer's Goalkeeper of the Year.

Hamid helped lead his hometown club to a remarkable turnaround.

He set career highs with 10 shutouts and 110 saves during the regular season as United went from the league's worst record to the top spot in the Eastern Conference.

Real Salt Lake's Nick Rimando was second in the voting, who congratulated Hamid on the award.

MLS also announced on Wednesday that Vancouver Whitecaps FC midfielder Pedro Morales won Newcomer of the Year.

He joined Vancouver from Malaga in Spain's La Liga as a designated player in March and led the Whitecaps with 10 goals and 12 assists.

New England's Jermaine Jones was second in the voting.
