Portland Timbers' star Diego Valeri has torn ACL, out 5 months

Portland Timbers star midfielder Diego Valeri tore his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, the club announced on Tuesday.

Valeri, 28, will have surgery and miss at least five months, according to the Timbers.

The Argentinian was injured on Saturday during Portland's season finale, a 2-0 win against FC Dallas. A win by the Vancouver Whitecaps the next day eliminated the Timbers from playoff contention.

Valeri led the Timbers with 11 goals and 14 assists, both records for the club in MLS. He was named player of the week on Oct. 8 after scoring twice against San Jose.
