Dom Dwyer gets MLS All-Star nod

Dom Dwyer is headed to the MLS All-Star Game after all.

The Sporting Kansas City forward will replace Toronto FC's Jermain Defoe, who missed Saturday's match with a suspected sports hernia.

Dwyer is tied for second in MLS with 14 goals this season and was the most notable snub when the All-Star squad to face Bayern Munich (Wednesday, 9:30 p.m. ET, ESPN2) was announced last week.

Dwyer has helped Sporting KC to the best record in MLS this season. The England-born forward played college soccer in the U.S., and recently expressed an interest in playing for the U.S. national team should he get an opportunity.

"If the offer ever came to me, I think it would be a difficult one to say no to," he said.

Defoe was a late scratch from Toronto's game on Saturday against the Montreal Impact with an injury that will keep him out of this week's festivities.

"He's been feeling his groin for a few weeks now," TFC coach Ryan Nelsen told the Toronto Star. "He's been going for over a year, pushing on 18 months at the end of this season and you get these little niggles with your body being worn down and that.

"Hopefully it's nothing too major. We'll check on Sunday, we'll get an image and hopefully it's just maybe a little bit of rest."
