HARRISON, N.J. -- The New York Red Bulls have signed defender Jamison Olave to a new contract.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed by the team.
Olave was the team's defensive player of the year last year, when the center back appeared in 29 regular-season games and led New York defenders with four goals.
The 32-year-old Colombian was acquired with forward Fabian Espindola from Real Salt Lake for allocation money on Dec. 3, 2012. His agreement was announced Wednesday.
“Jamison showed last season and throughout his MLS career that he is an elite center back in the League and we are pleased to sign him to a new deal. His performances last year were vital in our success last year,” Red Bulls sporting director Andy Roxburgh said in a statement. “We look forward to Jamison’s contributions in the coming season, as he continues to be an important part of our squad.”
